"Focusing on Southeast Asia"

Thomas Hutchings formerly resided in Saigon, Viet Nam. He was a columnist with the Saigon Business Weekly (Doanh Nhan Sai Gon Cuoi Tuan) and spent his time writing, travelling, and photographing exotic Southeast Asia. Hutchings served with the US Air Force during the war in Viet Nam. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and four Air Medals. He chose to live in Viet Nam for six years. Besides writing and photography, he also provided English lessons to indigent students.

Hutchings said, "The people of Southeast Asia are a peaceful people. The people are gracious, very friendly and willing to give help when they see the need."

Hutchings recalled the traumatic days of the war. "My tour of duty at Tan Son Nhut Air Base in Saigon lasted 19 months, much longer than the 12 months required. I saw what the ravages of war can do to people, the environment and to the soul of a country. I returned to live in Viet Nam because it is a country at peace and I wanted to help where I can."

Hutchings' experiences are varied. He has written two books: Mendicus and Tears of Tay Ninh.

Mendicus is a homeless veteran struggling with post traumatic stress syndrome. This novella chronicles the seasons of his life and the four seasons of homelessness where he is seen yet unseen.

Tears of Tay Ninh is the story of two soldiers whose involvement in covert operations during the Vietnam War draws them back to Southeast Asia years later, where they must face the demons of the past.

He currently lives in Indiana and is a voice actor.
